California Dreamed series
On the nightly news we seem to be witnessing the collapse of the American dream.
When I was a kid, everything that was cool was American. Everything about America was bigger and better. All the best toys, TV shows and movies. I went to the U.S. for the first time in the ‘80s, and I’ve been fortunate to do a couple of long road trips through California as an adult. These collages are pieced together from photographs of mine, together with collected and found images and paper cuttings. They are collages of a collective memory, of a place that no longer exists, and perhaps never did. An America dreamed.
These are the first in a body of work that is still taking shape as I piece them together.
The collages are printed as lithographs on 300gsm uncoated Fresco Gesso paper.
Sized at A3 - 594 x 420mm, each of them is available in an edition of 10.
